Walmart, Cyber Monday Conversion Rates and Walgreens

Walmart’s in-store online ordering

Walmart has done it again. As they continue to push into ecommerce and omni-channel, new ideas are constantly evolving and becoming a reality. Walmart has announced that they are now giving customers the ability to place orders with Walmart associates if an item they’re shopping for is out-of-stock or not supplied at that location. Once the order is placed, the customer will get a slip of paper with a barcode from the store associate and pay for the item at checkout with cash or credit. Walmart even provided a video that that gives an example of this new feature in action.

What stood out to us? A giant company trying new things, taking risks, testing, and learning.

Cyber Monday high conversion rate chart

Cyber Monday conversion rates

Last month’s Cyber Monday broke records, reaching an impressive $7.9 billion in online sales. With those high sales came high conversion rates, especially for companies like Etsy Inc. and Target. The top online retailers from Cyber Monday included Amazon, Apple, Best Buy, Kohl’s and Macy’s, with many of these retailers having higher conversion rates on Cyber Monday than Black Friday. Target had one of the highest conversion rate increases of 82.4%. Although lower conversion rates aren’t always a bad thing and can be skewed due to higher volumes of traffic, higher conversion rates are always a happy sight to see.

What stood out to us? High conversion rates.

Why should you care? High conversion rates. Duh.

Walgreens and FedEx fast drug delivery

Walgreens isn’t going down without a fight (they’re looking at you, Amazon). As a way to stay on top of the game, Walgreens is teaming up with FedEx to offer quick drug delivery to customers. With Walgreens Express, customers will be able to get their prescriptions delivered to them as soon as the next day. When prescriptions are running low, customers will get a text message with the option of home delivery or in-store pick up. There are a number of cities where Walgreens offers same day delivery, including Chicago, Dallas, New York, Gainesville, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale, and they plan on expanding in the coming year.

What stood out to us? This could be the cure for retail's Amazon flu.
