Alibaba Stops 300M Hacks a Day, Emerson’s New Portal, and Fastenal’s Ecommerce Growth

Alibaba Stops 300M Hack Attempts Per Day

One of the world’s largest ecommerce entities doesn’t stop thousands of hack attempts each day, it stops millions. Alibaba Group revealed this week that it is the target of over 300 million attempted cyberattacks per day. Adding to this impressive record is Alipay, Alibaba’s payment service with over 1 billion users, apparently has yet to lose “one cent” through hacking attempts. Alibaba founder Jack Ma attributes his company’s success at preventing hacks to the advanced tech capabilities of the platform, dubbed “AI: Alibaba Intelligence.” “We teach the machine all the ways people (are) cheating [hacking],” saysMa. “The machine remembers over millions of ways of cheating, so when we start the cheating, (the) machine already knows you are cheating. In this way we are protecting all the technology.”

Fastenal’s Grows Ecommerce with IOT Vending Machines

Fastenal, a wholesale distributor of products including construction fasteners, water pumps, and 3D printers, is seeing huge eCommerce growth in “a declining economy,” thanks to emerging Internet of Things technology. The company reported an 8% increase in Q3 net sales and eCommerce sales growth of 28%, attributed mainly to its internet-connected vending machines and Onsite sales and service operations. Fastenal’s IoT vending machines dispense equipment and tools such as safety glasses and bolts and record transactions via the web. The Onsite operations additionally provide parts and services through dedicated teams placed near customer facilities. Fastenal installed over 88,000 vending machines and plans to install 22,000 by the end of this year.

Emmerson’s New Content and Ecommerce Portal

Emerson, a manufacturer, and distributor of industrial valves and instruments is quickly becoming a leader in eCommerce for engineers. The company has recently launched MyEmerson, a part of Emerson.com, a new digital portal focused on giving engineers and engineering support teams access to digital content, planning tools and eCommerce features that speed up engineering design and collaboration. This new portal can rapidly configure product instrumentation, and will reportedly save over 100 engineering hours annually. Also, the portal can let users create requisition lists, generate quotes, and automatically populate purchase orders, in addition to letting users view order status, order history, and purchase orders. “With greater visibility to order status and order history, procurement teams have access to the information they need to drive more efficient processes,” says Emmerson in a statement.

What stood out to us? Phase 2 will integrate with vending machines that distribute pocket protectors. Emerson is partnering with Alibaba to create AI that predicts when a hole will occur in pocket protectors potentially saving thousands of short sleeve button down plaid shirts. JK.
