Software Product Manager

Amla Commerce is looking for a tech savvy, experienced Software Product Manager to provide overall vision, process and product strategies for our ecommerce software platforms. The ideal candidate will have a history of success growing new and existing product lines, and will combine strategic thinking, exceptional communication skills and the ability to manage complex initiatives across multiple teams.

The Software Product Manager will work creatively and pragmatically to drive the growth and scope of our product roadmaps, as well as guide the release of new features and functionality. This person will oversee all steps in the product-lifecycle process from inception of a product to its end of life, including strategy, concept phase, market entry, development and evolution. The Product Manager will act as the “messenger of the market” from the outside-in to the rest of the organization.


Research & Development

  • Implement and lead a unified product development process by managing internal and external resources across departments and functions, from end-user insights through to launch and post-launch product improvements
  • Gather and build requirements including business case development, functional product development and technical expertise
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of product design and development
  • Develop a short term (0-1 year) and long term (1-3 years) roadmap for our products to illustrate our vision and plan into the future
  • Manage the entire product line life cycle from sunsetting legacy products to prototyping and testing new features/products and ideas
  • Scope and prioritize activities based on business and customer impact
  • Represent the company by visiting customers to solicit feedback on company products and services

Market Research & Analysis

  • Know why we are winning and losing in the market, and drive changes to our product and processes to create improvement
  • Keep a finger on the pulse of our competition, and develop strategies and tactics to reduce the threat
  • Gain a deep understanding of customer experience, identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that grow market share, improve customer experience and drive growth
  • Manage inquiries with Gartner, Forrester and other analysts to further product roadmap and functionality

Product Launch & Support

  • Work closely with all internal departments, including marketing, development, executives, and other product management team members on the go-to-market process to ensure the successful release of new product features and functionality
  • Work with marketing to evaluate promotional plans to ensure that they are consistent with product line strategy and that the message is effectively conveyed
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders, such as marketing and executives on the creation of product positioning


Position Must-have’s

  • 5+ years of marketing, development, sales, or product management experience
  • B.A. or B.S. in Business, Management, Marketing, Product Management or related field
  • Track record of using qualitative and quantitative data to prioritize and drive decision-making
  • Demonstrated history of understanding target customers to determine the offering that will grow the business and develop prioritized product specs as well as a min viable product
  • Demonstrated history of working with software developers to collaborate on feasibility and refine min viable product
  • Ability to prioritize distinct tasks in an environment with multiple competing priorities
  • Comfortable in the role of subject matter expert with customers and partners
  • Ablility to isolate patterns and priorities from numerous customer scenarios and conversations
  • Experience with best practice agile scrum development and lean startup principles
  • Engaging presenter, strong communicator, and strong networker to build relationships across the organization
  • Ability to travel to customer and potential sites up to 10%

Position nice-to-have’s

  • Knowledge of the ecommerce industry and ecommerce software platforms
  • Experience working with offshore development teams
  • Experience in a high growth start-up or working in dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Experience with product management tools, such as JIRA, Aha!, Product Plan and Basecamp
